Most people don’t realize how important their hands are to daily living until something bad happens to those extremities. Trauma from motor vehicle accidents, fractures and other incidents can have debilitating effects.
That’s where the specialists from the Advanced Hand & Plastic Surgery Center can help. The office, which has been open for about a year in the Cypress Ridge Professional Park off S.R. 56, celebrated on Nov. 1 by hosting na Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce (WCCC) ribbon-cutting event (photo).
“We’re really glad to be in this area of Wesley Chapel and to let people know of our services,” said Roy Sulma, a registered/licensed occupational therapist and certified hand therapist (OTR/L and CHT) at Advanced.
The office — headed by M.D.s Luis A. Laurentin-Perez, Francisco A. Schwartz-Fernandes and Scott Gargasz — handles injuries, deformities and disorders concerning the hand, wrist and upper extremities. That includes anything from amputations and nerve damage to trigger fingers and cysts.
“The hand is so intricate and complicated and can have a big impact on functions,” Sulma said.
The office, which accepts major insurance providers, also sees patients for plastic surgery for aesthetic purposes. Following a ceremonial snipping of the ribbon Nov. 1, staff members gave a tour of the office’s technology and its newer (see below) digs.
“Welcome to Wesley Chapel,” Cindy Freeman, membership coordinator for the WCCC said at the ribbon-cutting. Freeman added that the office has brought an estimated 30 jobs to the community.
Advanced has an original location on Habana Ave. in Tampa that the practice had outgrown. Dr. Laurentin-Perez said the opening of the Wesley Chapel office made sense since some of the medical staff already lived in the Wesley Chapel area.
“We are thrilled we are here,” he said.
