By now, you probably realize that we have waved “so long” to the old northbound exit ramp for S.R. 56 and have welcomed two new and improved ramps to Exit 275 from I-75. The new improvements definitely seem to be easing traffic congestion for vehicles entering I-75 from the I-275 interchange, and also allow drivers from both interstate highways swift access to S.R. 56, especially during peak travel hours.Continue reading

Dump Truck Flips Over On Amberly Dr. At BBD

Things are a bit quieter today at the intersection of Amberly Dr. and Bruce B. Downs Blvd. (BBD) than they were the morning of August 12. At that intersection, a 16,000-pound dump truck filled with 22 tons of dirt careened off BBD, flipping over on its side while skidding onto Amberly Dr. while the driver fought to avoid colliding with a car that had stopped quickly in front of him when a traffic signal turned yellow at BBD.Continue reading

Alleged Counterfeiter Caught

Some people have trouble keeping their hobbies down to just one or two things. Derek Jamaal Shaw, 19, a Tampa resident, recently told the Tampa Police Department (TPD) that he is a student at Shear Excellence barber shop. On Twitter, however, he is an aspiring rap artist, and in August, TPD says, he tried his hand at counterfeiting currency and possessing stolen goods taken during a recent burglary in New Tampa.Continue reading

GrillSmith Restaurants Donate Profits For Slain New Tampa Siblings

Thanks to the combined efforts of Col. Parker Schenecker and the six GrillSmith restaurant locations in the Tampa Bay area, a foundation named in honor of Schenecker’s children now has $10,500 in its coffers.

The one-week event began at GrillSmith’s Wesley Chapel location at the Shops at Wiregrass, where Shenecker kicked off the event with 13 of his close family and friends.Continue reading

New Tampa Woman, 23, Killed By Neighbor’s Exhaust Fumes

At our press time, charges had not been filed against Andrew Grywalski, 22, a New Tampa man who, police say, forgot to turn off the ignition in his car, which left one of his neighbors dead from what the Tampa Police Department (TPD) says was most likely a “terrible accident.” Family members and co-workers at Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) are grieving over the death of Rebecca Hawk, 23, an “always smiling” child protection investigator for HCSO who died from carbon monoxide poisoning when Grywalski left his car running overnight in the garage of his Vista Grande apartment in Tampa Palms.Continue reading
