Hand-me-downs can be a great thing—especially for parents who need to save money on clothes. Bobbie Rose, the youngest of three girls in her family, had to live with hand-me-downs from her two older sisters for most of her childhood.
But, Bobbie’s mother taught her how to sew and crochet at the age of 12 and that’s how the Bobbie Rose designer label got started.
Started in the early 1990s, the Bobbie Rose of Florida label has become known for ready-to-wear clothing. After signing a short-term, temporary lease in the Shoppes at New Tampa plaza (between Publix and Bealls), she decided to instead sell her designer label and other products (see below) in her online boutique.
In 1999, Bobbie started a bath and body product line for people with sensitive skin and allergies to the big-store lines, driven by her own sensitivity to products. “My goal is to produce a hair product line for all nationalities,” she says.
Her online boutique gives shoppers a variety of products to choose from, including not only her Bobbie Rose label (photo, above), but also other lines of clothing, which offer sizes 0 – 24; unlike other boutiques, which often stop at size 12 or 14.
Although she lives in Town & Country, Bobbie says a lot of her customers are New Tampa and Wesley Chapel residents who got to know her at her storefront location.
