As the Tuesday, November 6, Presidential Election approaches, registered voters in New Tampa have a lot to decide. Four Years After Hazing Death, Kowiak Family Raises Awareness In D.C.

It’s been four years since the sudden, tragic death of New Tampa resident Harrison Kowiak, but his family continues to fight to end “hazing,” which they know to be the cause of Harrison’s death — and the deaths of numerous other college students over the years. Harrison’s mother and sister recently brought their battle to Washington, D.C., to support legislation to help end hazing in fraternities nationwide, if possible.Continue reading

New Tampa Man Raising Money Ahead Of NYC Marathon Run

Michael Almeyda has never run more than 14 miles. And, while that is much further than most would ever consider running, unless being chased by flesh-eating zombies or a velociraptor, he is looking forward to running 12 miles more than his longest-ever run to date come November. Add to that the fact that he will be competing in the New York City Marathon and raising more than $6,000 for cancer research, it can be assumed that he has his work cut out for him.Continue reading
