weberA Wesley Chapel man is in custody, after being arrested and charged with robbing a local bank.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), at around 9 a.m. on February 17, Steve Alan Weber, 49, of Wesley Chapel, walked into the Suncoast Federal Credit Union off Eiland Blvd. in the Summertree Plaza. Once inside, he reportedly pulled a white bank bag from his clothing.

PCSO reports that Weber approached a teller and put his hand in the bank bag to make it look like he had a weapon. Weber was handed more than $500 in cash by the teller and then fled the bank to his vehicle in a nearby parking lot.

Deputies were able to identify Weber using the bank’s security footage and his driver’s license image. Weber was arrested unarmed at his nearby residence at 1 p.m. After his arrest, he admitted to robbing the bank and told deputies that he had wired some of the money to another party and that the rest was at his residence, which was recovered.

Weber was charged with robbery without a firearm or weapon and remains in custody at the Land O’Lakes Detention Center in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
