If youâve ever even thought about taking a cross-country trip or taking a year off to travel, you should definitely visit the 2014 Florida RVâSuperShow, the signature annual event of the Florida RVâ(Recreational Vehicle) Trade Association which has been helping RVâdealers throughout Florida since 1979. The SuperShow â the largest RVâshow in the U.S. â is being held through Sunday, January 19, at the Florida State Fairgrounds off I-4 at U.S. 301 in Tampa, minutes from New Tampa.
There will be 1,100 RVs on display (including all-new 2014 models) and more than 350 booths to explore and admission is just $10 for a two-day pass (kids under 16 get in free).
Although there are a lot of successful local business people who are members of the Wesley Chapel Rotary Club (which meets Wednesdays at noon at Ciao! Italian Bistro in the Shops at Wiregrass mall), weâre pretty sure that no local Rotarian had ever had his or her business featured on the hit ABC-TV show âShark Tankâ before club member Ben Alexander and his company Balloon Distractionsâ appearance on the program, which actually is being shown tonight â Friday, January 17, 9 p.m.
But, even though I told Ben I would agree to not reveal whether or not the showâs âsharksâ agreed to invest in his balloon entertainment franchising company and national talent agency that sends entertainers out to restaurants and other venues in 30 cities across the U.S., all I can say is that the promo for the show, which had billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner and media superstar Mark Cuban yelling at Ben to âShut up!,â is reason enough to watch.
And, plenty of Benâs fellow Rotarians and other friends are expected to be in attendance to actually watch the âShark Tankâ episode together at 8 p.m. at PrimeBar in the Shops at Wiregrass. It should be a packed house for this unprecedented event.
Even though he obviously already knew whether or not the group of sharks were going to invest in his company after the taping of the episode, Alexander himself, always the pragmatist, has worked hard to ensure that his website would have enough capacity to handle all the hits â an average of about 500,000 â every âShark Tankâ-featured businessâ website receives, whether the sharks invested in them or not.
PHCC Porter Campus Provost Dr. Stanley Giannet recently gave the Neighborhood News an exclusive tour of Wesley Chapel’s first college, where classes officially began January 13.
By Gary Nager
Wow, assistant editor & Neighborhood News photographer Matt Wiley and I were overwhelmed by our recent tour of what is still today called Pasco Hernando Community College (PHCC)âs Porter Campus at Wiregrass Ranch. However, as explained to us by high-energy Provost Stanley Giannet, Ph.D., the brand-spankinâ-new campus located off S.R. 56 at Mansfield Blvd. will soon officially have a new name â as will all five PHCC campuses.Continue reading
If you were to search âHarrisâ or even âTaylor Emeryâ in the iTunes Store on a computer, numerous results for both song names and artists would appear. However, one result would be a song actually named âHarris,â written and produced right here in New Tampa, to honor Freedom High graduate Jordan Harris, who passed away after a long battle with brain cancer in October at the age of 18.Continue reading
