It’s always important to make sure that your vehicle doors are locked, even inside gated communities in the New Tampa area.

According to the Tampa Police Department (TPD), on October 26 at 2 p.m., four juveniles were arrested at the Vista Grande at Tampa Palms apartment complex, located on Commerce Park Blvd. TPD reports that a resident of the complex witnessed the juveniles enter his brother’s parked car. The resident followed the suspects through the complex and alerted a security guard. The guard detained the suspects until TPD officers arrived.

Following their arrest, the juveniles confessed to entering the vehicle, as well as numerous others in the area. TPD reports that, with the consent of one of the suspect’s parents, one of the juveniles was driven through the nearby Ashington Estates community, where the suspect identified three vehicles that were entered and eight others that the group checked, but were locked.

TPD recovered numerous items from the suspects, including $240 in cash, a set of headphones, a large amount of loose change, cigarette lighters and rolled marijuana cigarettes. The suspects also admitted to entering cars outside of Koizi Endless Hibachi Japanese restaurant, located in the Pointe at Tampa Palms shopping center.

The juveniles were charged with auto burglary and transported to the Hillsborough Juvenile Assessment Center.
