An October 6 U-turn-related motorcycle collision on S.R. 54 has left one man dead.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), 20-year-old Kayla Ceglenski was driving her 1999 Ford Explorer eastbound on S.R. 54 just before 11 p.m. when she decided to make a U-turn and head westbound near Old County Rd. 54.
At the same time, 22-year-old Robert Adam Szymanowski, III, of Land O’ Lakes, was driving his Suzuki motorcycle westbound on S.R. 54.
The FHP report says that as Ceglenski made her U-turn, she turned into the path of Szymanowski, who was unable to avoid the collision and struck the SUV on the front-passenger side.
Although he was wearing a helmet, Szymanowski sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Ceglenski and her two passengers were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. The report says that the collision doesn’t appear to be alcohol-related, but it is still under investigation. — MW
