If planning on running from the law, it’s usually a good idea to leave the kids at home. One Pasco man has learned this lesson the hard way.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO), just after 4 p.m. on July 10, Raleigh Sherwood Milton, 32, of Dade City fled from a PCSO deputy who attempted to pull him over for speeding near the intersection of Keifer Rd. and Curley Rd. in Wesley Chapel.

The PCSO report says that, while fleeing, Milton lost control of his vehicle, left the road and crashed through the fence of a home. Milton then grabbed his two-year-old daughter, who also was in the vehicle during the chase, as well as a glass jar, which later was discovered to be filled with marijuana.

PCSO reports that Milton fled on foot and threw both his daughter and the jar over a fence so that he, too, could jump over it. He then picked up his daughter and continued running. Deputies were able to catch up and apprehend the suspect.

Once in custody, deputies discovered that Milton had an outstanding warrant in Hernando County for felony possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence and resisting arrest with out violence, as well as another for driving with a suspended license.

Milton was charged with fleeing to elude, child abuse, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving with property damage and driving with a suspended license. He currently is being held at the Land O’Lakes Detention Center on $33,000 bond.
