FMC wiregrassBy Matt Wiley

If you’ve been driving along Bruce B. Downs (BBD) Blvd. north of S.R. 56, you may have noticed that dirt is being turned between the Shops At Wiregrass mall and Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel (FHWC). What will rise at the site is another impressive medical facility for our area.

Florida Medical Clinic, which has a multi-building facility of more than 60,000 square feet in Land O’Lakes (on S.R. 54 a few miles west of Wesley Chapel), as well as several offices in the Summergate Professional Center behind Sam’s Club off S.R. 56), is in the process of building a new 85,000-sq.-ft. facility just south of FHWC.

“Our practice is growing and we are consolidating several offices in the area and expanding our space,” says Florida Medical Clinic’s director of marketing Janet Wing. “This is a very dynamic project for us.”

The building will stand three stories tall and serve as a hub for 60 physicians from various medical specialties, including orthopaedics & sports medicine; adult & pediatric spinal deformities; physical therapy; radiology; urgent care; family medicine; internal medicine; pediatrics; cardiology; gastroenterology; pulmonology; dermatology; urology; nephrology; obstetrics & gynecology; behavioral health; allergy; and ear, nose & throat.

Wing says that construction is well under way and Wesley Chapel residents should see vertical construction begin in the next few weeks, with the facility currently scheduled to open in March 2016.

According to site plans for the Florida Medical Clinic project, the facility’s parking lot will be accessible from both Legacy Blvd. (which serves as the northernmost entrance to the mall), as well as from BBD.
