Although I was unfortunately not able to attend this year, I wanted to congratulate the winners of the 2012 “Oscars” at the Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce’s 2012 Awards Banquet and Installation of Officers event. “Oscars Night,” held September 22 at Saddlebrook Resort Tampa off S.R. 54, was an opportunity to honor the Chamber’s members businesses that have supported both the Chamber and the Wesley Chapel community in various ways.

Some of the businesses and people were honored for providing financial support for the Chamber, while others were recognized for donating so much of their time, effort and energy. The Chamber also formally elected its slate of 2012-13 Board members and honored outgoing president Debra Kaplan (who is still on the 2012-13 Board) and the members of her 2011-12 Board of Directors at the event.

Congratulations to the following 2012 award winners, although we unfortunately don’t have pics available for all of them:

Volunteer of the Year – Rene Van Hout, LOL Transport & Moving

Business Leader of the Year – John Negley, Fl Hospital Wesley Chapel

Civic Organization of the Year – Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel

Small Business of the Year – Sign-A-Rama of New Tampa

Large Business of the Year – Hampton Inn & Suites Wesley Chapel

Other Chamber News

If you like seeing the Wesley Chapel Chamber pics here (and our thanks to Tony Masella of OurTownFLA.com for providing them), we’ve got a lot more Chamber stuff for you.

In my editorial on page 3, I will tell you why both the WCCC and yours truly are endorsing the continuation of the “Penny for Pasco” one-cent sales tax, which appears on this year’s General Election ballot. On page 15, we also will introduce this year’s Honorary Mayor of WC candidates.

And finally, we plan to start our WC Chamber page in our Nov. 17 issue, so we hope that if you’re a Chamber member, you will support our Chamber by placing an ad (call Nikki at 910-2575 to order yours). If not, please join the Chamber asap!
