Although tacos aren’t normally what I order when I go to a Mexican restaurant, my friends Jennifer & Travis Davidson and their friends Mary Ann & Keith Cucuzza have opened a new taco stand at 1815 E. 7th Ave. in Ybor City called the Flaming Taco, which caters to not only the club crowd’s “fiery passion for spicy food,” but yours and mine, too.
It may not be easy to find the Flaming Taco (which is located inside the Yo Boys yogurt shop, a little more than a block from the Columbia Restaurant), but if you want delicious tacos featuring words like “all natural,” “grain fed,” “free range,” “no antibiotics” & “black angus USDA Choice beef,” the Flaming Taco has you covered — for just $3 per taco!
Travis, who is from Arizona, says he got tired of not having the type of bold, spicy-but-flavorful Mexican food he grew up with since he moved to Florida. And, when the long-time IT geek was told by a friend of his that there was an availability on 7th Ave., he and Jen, a long-time insurance sales person, decided it was worth a shot to see if Travis’ recipes — some of which he has been perfecting for years — would draw in the Ybor crowd.
As soon as standing outside on weekends between midnight-3 a.m. took off, Travis & Jen joined forces with Mary Ann & Keith, both of whom have been in business development and consulting, in order to expand to full lunch and dinner hours on Wed.-Sat., noon-10 p.m., and midnight until at least 1 a.m. on Fri. & Sat. nights.
I loved all three of the tacos pictured here, especially the spicy El Cubano beef brisket, and I know you will love all seven items on the Flaming Taco menu (including the unique bacon guac-adilla), where, “Our menu is small, but our commitment is huge!” For info, call 248-1026 or visit TheFlamingTaco.com.
