Since 1988, Jimmy Fisher has been providing State Farm Auto Insurance to customers in New Tampa, Wesley Chapel and the community in which he was born and raised, Temple Terrace. His long-time office — situated on E. Fowler Ave. in a popular stretch of office and retail plazas a few miles east of Bruce B. Downs (BBD) Blvd. and less than a mile west of I-75 — is most recognizable by the white 1956 Ford Sedan delivery truck with the familiar red State Farm logo. The vintage truck sits out front almost all the time, signifying good old-fashioned neighborhood service.

Since he isn’t limited by State Farm geographically, Fisher helps clients not only in his three primary communities, but also in other parts of Tampa, as well as Seffner, Plant City, Brandon, Riverview and all surrounding areas.

Fisher’s two-story office building, with its black awnings, is home to a total of twelve experienced, licensed State Farm staff members, both full-time and part-time. Together, Fisher and his staff have over 150 years of State Farm experience.

“I feel this crew helps me make a great difference in providing service to current and prospective clients,” he says. “We study the client’s particular risk for an understanding of what they need and then, we try to save them some money.”

State Farm has been the largest auto insurance company in the country every year since 1942, which allows the company to offer the best-possible service at always-competitive prices to meet each customer’s needs.

When you become a Jimmy Fisher State Farm customer, you will have access to a 24/7 phone answering line — and always hear a human voice.

“Our customers practically have me ‘on retainer’ to talk to,” Fisher says. “I can visit people at their homes, and my office also is even open on Saturdays by appointment.”

Fisher feels insurance issues are becoming so complex that people want someone who can help them answer their questions at any time, and address features in a policy that a customer may not even know exists or that may need clarification.

Although Fisher and his associates specialize in automobile insurance, the office does offer life, homeowners and renters insurance under the State Farm umbrella. They also can provide opinions and reviews of other insurance products.

“We can help our customers pick the right companies and programs for their other insurance needs.”

The State Farm company brochure at Fisher’s office features many types of auto insurance discounts, and Fisher himself says he enjoys talking about these special rates.

“We have a Good Driving Discount, Accident Free Discount, Multiple Automobile Discount, and a unique Steer Clear® feature for young drivers who may get a discount on their auto insurance after taking a special online State Farm program.”

In addition, the company offers discounts for safety features in a car, a Defensive Driving Discount for people age 55 and older, and a program that provides State Farm’s own Emergency Road Service.

Speaking of the State Farm brochures, they also are printed in Spanish, and Fisher has three Spanish-speaking staff members in his office.

Jimmy is a third-generation Tampa native. He graduated from King High, which is located just a couple of miles south of his Fowler Ave. location. He started his office with just one employee and it has grown to be one of the largest State Farm agency locations in the area. Because he is so well known to folks around not only Temple Terrace and the surrounding communities but also all around the Tampa Bay area, 50-80 percent of his customers are referrals from other clients.

Tebow? Who’s That?

But, if the name Jimmy Fisher sounds familiar to you for reasons other than insurance, it might be because of Fisher’s football career — he was a starting quarterback for the University of Florida Gators (1972-76), and he was a team captain in that last year. Fisher set a record for single-season rushing touchdowns by a UF QB (8, he also threw 10 TD passes that year) that stayed on the books until a relative unknown named Tim Tebow barely broke it (with 23 rushing TDs) more than 30 years later — in 2007.

Besides being a big year for him in football, 1976 was a banner time for Fisher in another way — that was the year he married his lovely wife, Janet. The couple has two grown, married daughters.

“It’s an honor and a pleasure to help the communities in and around Tampa with their insurance needs,” Fisher says. “Our motto is ‘We live where you live,’ and it’s true for me. I’m not going anywhere.”
