Home to one of the four golf courses in the New Tampa area, a new rental apartment community in Pebble Creek will soon offer a bird’s eye view of the Pebble Creek Golf Club course from three stories up.

The Links at Pebble Creek, a new, gated apartment complex, has been under construction on the site of the course’s former driving range since April 1. When completed, The Links will offer rental apartments that are intended to offer a nice alternative to owning a home on the course, according to J. Michael Morris, president and founder of Bayfair Homes.

“The property was there and available,” he says. “Plus, we liked the idea of putting apartments on a golf course. It’s a neat situation because (the apartments) are not on BBD, but they’re close. We’re a smaller complex than most in the area, and completely gated. It’s going to be very secure.”

Morris says that the original plan was to construct for-sale townhomes on the property, but after the recent local housing market crash, he says it didn’t seem like a profitable venture.

So, instead, The Links at Pebble Creek are going up. The complex’s leasing center is currently set to open in November, with occupancy beginning in December, although Morris says that the apartments won’t be fully completed until April 2013.

The six-building, 168-unit development will feature one- and two-bedroom apartments that will run from about 800 sq. ft.-1,100 sq. ft. and will rent for about $1 per square foot. In addition to size, location also will be a determining factor in monthly rental price, with golf course or pool views being more expensive.

Speaking of amenities, Morris says The Links will feature a resort-style pool, complete with an outdoor kitchen and eating area, and a clubhouse with a large gym and social media area inside. The two parking garages that will accompany the apartments also home to an area for washing residents’ cars.

“We’re going to be a ‘Class A’ (or luxury) apartment complex,” Morris says. “I think it will be an enhancement to Pebble Creek.”

Morris says that Bayfair has owned the land where The Links are being constructed for about five years.

“I hope (the apartments) have Plexiglas,” says Chris Holman, the assistant golf pro at Pebble Creek. “Some of those windows are going to be pretty close to hole number nine.”

Holman says that, as far as golf is concerned, he’d rather still have the driving range, but that the course’s new hitting cage — which is serving as the range’s replacement — is actually better in a lot of ways, including proximity and maintenance.

“The driving range’s condition was always an issue, but this new practice area does exactly the same thing,” he explains. “You just don’t get to see how far your ball goes.”
