At long last, more and more health-conscious people are embracing what the chiropractic health care community has been advocating for years.

By focusing on the complex relationship between the nervous system and the spine, chiropractic treatment can restore the structural integrity of the spine and improve the overall health of an individual, says William Scheu, D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic), the clinic director at New Tampa Chiropractic & Injury Center (located in the Cypress Ridge Professional Park, off S.R. 56). Dr. Scheu and his staff are excited to work with you to help you be the healthiest you possible.

Dr. Scheu grew up with the philosophy of health and wholeness through non-invasive treatment, as both his father and grandfather, too, were licensed chiropractors.

Dr. Scheu says he used to help out in his father (Dr. Edward Scheu, III)’s chiropractic office in New Port Richey, where he saw the success that the patients who came to see his father had dealing with a variety of physical ailments, and he says he was impressed with his dad’s ability to treat them successfully — in a natural way.

“Seeing people getting well with a guy using primarily his hands — without the use of medications — was pretty significant to me,” says the third-generation chiropractor. “I knew it was what I wanted to do with my life, too.”

You might say it’s in his blood to improve the functionality of his patients, as well as educate them about how they can account for their own health through exercise, ergonomics and nervous system function. Now having practiced in Pasco County for more than 10 years, Dr. Scheu focuses on bettering the overall health of residents living in Wesley Chapel, New Tampa and the surrounding areas.

Dr. Scheu was raised in Clearwater and graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University in Marietta, GA, in 1997 and received his Florida D.C. license in 1998. He also previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from the same university. The D.C. degree requires roughly the same number of years to complete as a medical doctor (M.D.), but emphasizes patient care through a holistic approach to treating the whole patient, rather than only treating the symptoms that the patient might be exhibiting.

“Our goal is to affect 34 million people, which is roughly 10 percent of the U.S. population,” says Dr. Scheu, adding that less than 10 percent of the population currently uses chiropractic care. “If we (the chiropractic community) can do that, healthcare as we know it will change.”

The goal, Dr. Scheu says, is to correct previously undiagnosed or misdiagnosed misalignments of the spine (referred to as subluxations) to improve how bodies function, so that functionality is enhanced long before the body shows symptoms. In other words, the goal of chiropractors across the U.S. is to take care of problems before those problems manifest in illness or pain.

Some of the principals of chiropractic therapy are similar to other systems of medicine, but Dr. Scheu says the beliefs, as well as the manner of application of these principles, distinguishes it from the other forms of medicine.

He notes that the staff at New Tampa Chiro embraces the “Five Essentials” to optimal health:

• Maximize Mind Set

• Maximize Nervous System Function

• Maximize Nutrition

• Maximize Fitness

• Minimize Toxicity

Using these essential principles and with a staff of dedicated and caring professionals, Dr. Scheu and his team provide chiropractic, massage therapy and physical therapy to those suffering with musculoskeletal conditions, whether from auto, sports or on-the-job injuries, as well as every day aches and pains.

The office has made it easy to take the first step in recovery and well-being by offering flexible hours and affordable pricing, too. Most medical insurance plans are accepted and filed for your convenience.

So how can you begin? Schedule an initial consultation, which includes an exam, recording of vital signs and computerized spinal tests, nerve scans and on-site X-rays. Dr. Scheu will then sit down with you to discuss the results, your treatment options and to set up a time frame for your treatment.

Jennifer, a New Tampa Chiro patient from Tampa, says, “My family has been going to Dr. Scheu for many years. My health has improved tremendously from consistent appointments and the training he has offered in regard to healthy living. He always greets us with a huge smile and his staff is extremely friendly and caring.”

Kellie Parrish, Dr. Scheu’s office manager since 2010, enjoys the genuine relationships she has cultivated with the patients of New Tampa Chiropractic & Injury Center. Along with licensed massage therapists (LMTs) Yoko Hunt, Santa Arahola and Kim Bowler, as well as front office staff member Theresa Ferrantelli, the office is well equipped and always professional.

More important is the fact that the staffers pride themselves on creating a family-type atmosphere for their patients. After all, Dr. Scheu has treated patients as young as two weeks old and seniors in their 90s. He says that chiropractic care is suitable for and recommended for any age — it truly is a family environment!

Collecting Backpacks To Help Kids In Need

As an added bonus, through Monday, August 11, the office is conducting its annual Backpack Drive, in association with the Rotary Club of Wesley Chapel, of which Dr. Scheu has been a member for the past three years, serving for two years as Sergeant-at-Arms. In addition to his backpack drive, Dr. Scheu has participated in many of the Rotary Club’s service projects.

This year, he says the backpack donations will be divided up between Chester Taylor Elementary in Zephyrhills and Sunrise of Pasco County (women’s shelter) in Dade City. This is an opportunity for new patients to bring in a backpack filled with school supplies and Dr. Scheu will give you a complimentary exam, spinal scan and X-ray (**-See legal disclaimer at end of story).

New Tampa Chiropractic also has partnered with local businesses like OrangeTheory Fitness in New Tampa, Nutrition S’mart (on BBD) and Strive Athletic Club (off S.R. 56) to promote overall health and wellness to the community at various events. These local seminars and demonstrations help educate people about the optimal balance between the aforementioned Five Essentials.
