Speaking of big events…do you have any big plans for Saturday evening, April 21? Well, at 6 p.m. that evening, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) New Tampa Junior Woman’s Club will be presenting its 15th annual “Night of 5000” black-tie-optional charity ball and fund-raising gala at Hunter’s Green Country Club (10550 Longwater Run Dr.).

Join the “Juniors” for an elegant evening of dining, dancing, casino-style gaming and honoring our brave wounded servicemen and women, as the proceeds of the evening will benefit the Tampa Fisher House, the amazing residence housing the families of the heroes being treated at the James A. Haley Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital, which is located on Bruce B. Downs (BBD) Blvd., just south of E. Fletcher Ave.

My dear friend Valerie Casey is this year’s “Night” co-chair and she promises that the evening will be bigger and better than ever! I’ve been able to attend a couple of the previous “Nights” and it is always an amazing combination of beautifully dressed people enjoying outstanding food, beverage, awesome silent and live auctions and camaraderie — all while benefitting a fantastic cause.

The New Tampa Juniors have raised many tens of thousands of dollars for a variety of charitable causes, but Valerie (who also has hosted an annual golf tournament for the Tampa Fisher House) says no cause is nearer or dearer to the NTJWC’s heart (or hers) than providing care and comfort to the families of those who are wounded in service to our country.

Reservations were still available at press time to attend — and sponsor “casino” tables — at the 2012 “Night of 5000.” Call Isabelle Jensen at (414) 559-3027 for reservations. If you are not able to attend the “Night,” but would like to support the Fisher House by giving a donation, please go to GFWCNewTampaJuniors.org — or send checks to NTJWC, c/o Isabelle Jensen, P.O. Box 46183, Tampa, FL 33646. (Note-Donation checks should made payable to NTJWC with “Night of 5000” or “Fisher House” in the memo line.)
