The vehicle used in a September hit-and-run crash that injured a Wesley Chapel resident has been recovered.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), troopers have recovered a red 2010 Jeep Liberty that is believed to have been involved in the September 21 crash that injured 56-year-old Julio Vivo. However, the driver and the owner of the Liberty still are unknown.

FHP reports that just after 8:30 a.m. on September 21, the Jeep was traveling northbound on Bellamy Brothers Blvd, north of Bayhead Rd, a few miles southeast of Spring Hill. At the same time Vivo, also was traveling northbound on the road on a bicycle.

The FHP report says that for unknown reasons, the driver of the Jeep failed to observe the bicycle, causing a collision, after which the Jeep fled. Vivo was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition. Troopers continue to work to identify the hit and run driver and are seeking information from the public.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact FHP at 631-4020 or call Crime Stoppers at (800) 873-TIPS (8477).
