fhpA Wesley Chapel man has been identified as one of the drivers who fled the scene of a recent fatal accident on Fowler Ave.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), Amari A. Williams, 30, of Thonotosassa, died when he was ejected from his 1985 Chevrolet Camaro, after losing control, striking a second vehicle and flipping over on E. Fowler Ave., just east of I-75, around 3:15 a.m. on April 12.

FHP reports that Williams struck a 1997 GMC pickup truck, driven by Michael P. Mercer, 41, of Wesley Chapel. Following the collision, FHP says that Mercer fled the scene. His vehicle was found abandoned on E. Fletcher Ave.

Two witnesses—one from Jacksonville and one from Tampa—attempted to help Williams, but saw him struck by two more vehicles while still in the road. The driver of one of those vehicles called FHP and identified himself as William S. Ridley, 47, of Tampa.

Williams died of his injuries at the scene. The accident still is under investigation and no charges have yet been filed. If anyone has any information about the fourth driver, please call 631-4020.
