Wesley Chapel Man Killed In Crash With Dump Truck

A collision with a dump truck has resulted in the death of a Wesley Chapel man.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), at 8:08 a.m. on September 11, Jovan A. Contreras, 32, was traveling south on Brook Manor Dr. near the entrance to the Brookfield Estates community in his 2004 Acura RSX and about to make a left turn onto eastbound S.R. 54. 

At the same, Juan Carlos Lopez, 45, of Land O’Lakes, was driving a dump truck westbound on S.R. 54. 

FHP reports that Contreras did not stop at the posted stop sign at the intersection with S.R. 54 and drove into the path of Lopez’s truck. The front of the dump truck crashed into the driver’s side of Contreras’ Acura. Both vehicles came to rest on the southbound shoulder of S.R. 54. 

Contreras was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, but died of his injuries on September 12. FHP reports that alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor in the crash and that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
