Wesley Chapel McDonald's Lets You 'Create Your Taste'

McDonald’s is everywhere, with tens of thousands of restaurants around the world. But, the Wesley Chapel location on S.R. 54, just west of Oakley Blvd., is a little different than all of the others, and recent customers can taste the reason.

Wesley Chapel is home to one of only 18 McDonald’s locations in the country (and the only one in the state of Florida) with a “Create Your Taste” menu kiosk, which allows customers to choose the toppings they want on their quarter-pound burger. Customers then sit and wait to have their burger hand-delivered to their table, open-faced.

Co-owner John Frost says that he hopes this 24-hour location will be a model for stores in the future, as the company continues to innovate and improve customer experiences.

“When we heard about this concept and the ‘Create Your Taste’ kiosk, we thought it sounded like a cool concept and wanted to be involved in it,” Frost says, adding that his newly remodeled location has extra space in the lobby to handle internal customers, as well as a training center in the back of the restaurant.

“If this program continues to do as well as we think it will, we can serve as a training facility,” Frost explains.

At the kiosk, customers can choose between nine toppings, including fresh-sliced tomatoes, bacon, guacamole, sliced jalapenos and grilled mushrooms, as well as new sauces such as spicy mayo, sweet barbeque and creamy garlic.

The kiosk also allows customers to order any other menu item currently available.

“This is more than just the launch of a new burger,” Frost says. “This is about creating an environment and an experience that customers have told us that they want. They want the customizable experience and they want to be taken care of and interacted with by our (employees). The customer feedback so far has been phenomenal.”

In addition to the S.R. 54 location, the Frost family also owns three other McDonald’s locations in Tampa Palms, in the New Tampa Center and on Bruce B. Downs (BBD) Blvd., just south of S.R. 56 (next to PNC Bank, in front of Nutrition S’Mart).
