We wanted to congratulate several talented Wharton Athletes for winning honors at the Fall Sports Award ceremony at the Hillsborough County School District’s Raymond O. Shelton Administrative Center on Jan. 23.

First of all, football defensive back Vernon Hargreaves III was named the 74th winner of the Guy Toph Award as Hillsborough County’s top senior football player. Already committed to the University of Florida, Hargreaves, who had 100 tackles and 5 interceptions, scored 5 TDs on the year and is the first Wildcat to win the award.

Fellow Wharton senior outside hitter Caci Andreychuk, the daughter of former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Dave Andreychuk, took home the Kirkwood Volleyball Award as the county’s top senior player. She led the ‘Cats in kills in three of her four seasons.

Wharton MVP Shannon Clark also was named the female recipient of the Casey Most Valuable Golfer Award. Clark, a Wharton ROTC XO (executive officer), averaged about 82 shots for 18 holes this year, or about a 10 handicap.

We congratulate all three of these talented athletes. – GN
