With the Taste of New Tampa already behind us and the end of the school year in sight, we just wanted to give you some quick updates on three outstanding upcoming events in our immediate area.
The first is the Wesley Chapel Health & Wellness Festival, presented at and sponsored by The Shops at Wiregrass mall, the not-yet-open Wesley Chapel Mini (Cooper) dealership (on S.R. 56) and the Greater Wesley Chapel Chamber of Commerce, this Saturday, March 24, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Festival will feature a variety of free health screenings — with blood pressure, blood sugar, body fat analyses, body mass indexing and bone density tests from Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel; cholesterol, skin cancer and memory screenings, posture checks and hearing screening vouchers from Florida Hospital Zephyrhills; and spinal checks, vision testing and trigger points testing from the Medical Group of Tampa Bay. The Festival also will offer great children’s activities (including inflatable play areas, face painting and unique crafts for kids), lots of health care info, plus cooking and workout demonstrations and so much more.

Rotary PigFest May 5!
Five weeks after the Health & Wellness Festival, the Rotary Clubs (the original breakfast club, noon and evening) of New Tampa, as well as the Tampa North, Temple Terrace and Wesley Chapel Noon Rotary Clubs, are all so proud to present the ninth annual New Tampa Rotary PigFest on “Cinqo de Mayo,” Saturday, May 5, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at St. Mark Catholic Church on Cross Creek Blvd.
PigFest co-chairs Peter Gambacorta and Robert Garofano are promising to deliver 2,000 attendees — more than twice the number of last year’s record, when the PigFest brought in more than 900 attendees. In addition, this year’s event will have more amazing food, more vendors — with a focus on “woman-owned businesses” — nine BBQ teams slow-roasting pigs and competing for great prizes, a huge classic car and bike show, entertainment all day, cash prizes and so much more.
Rotary PigFest attendees pay $25 to get in, but that admission price includes chicken, pork and lots of “fixins” from Lee Roy Selmon’s and beer and wine for adults. One child under 12 gets in free with each paid adult admission. In addition, attendees can purchase “Pig Bucks” to spend on samples of the roast pig from the competitive BBQ teams, raffle tickets, items from vendors and so much more, with all proceeds going to more than 40 charities, nonprofits and schools.

New Tampa ACS Relay For Life May 18!
A little less than two weeks after “pigging out,” you might want to take a nice walk, so how about being part of an endeavor that can help make you a little healthier while raising money to help the American Cancer Society (ACS) continue its search for a cure as it helps those afflicted with and those affected by this devastating disease?
The New Tampa Relay for Life will be held at and around the running track at Paul R. Wharton High on Bruce B. Downs Blvd. beginning Friday, May 18, 6 p.m. Each Relay team has to keep one team member walking on the track through the night in celebration of the ongoing fight to eradicate cancer and to honor the memory of those who have succumbed to this most heinous of illnesses.
At our press time, the 263 New Tampa Relay participants on 41 teams already had raised more than $22,000 with seven weeks still to go until the New Tampa Relay is held.
